Festulolium loliaceum
Grazemore is a Tetraploid Perennial Ryegrass and Meadow Fescue cross to combine the production of the ryegrass with the persistence and productivity of the fescue. With softer leaves, Grazemore Festulolium is best suited to heavy grazing environments. Easily digestible sugar content leads to increased palatability over other grass species. Milk production is equal or exceeds that of tetraploid perennial ryegrasses. Grazemore does not perform in cold weather without sufficient cover but will continue growing in higher temperatures than perennial ryegrass.

Growth Pattern | Grazemore growth is similar to perennial ryegrass; however, the stand life is longer than perennial ryegrass (closer to tall fescue). |
Interseeding | Interseeding into alfalfa is possible and can give an existing stand that is performing poorly additional years. |
Did You Know? | Seeds/Lb: 207,000 |
Adaptation
Soil Conditions | Grazemore Festulolium is suited to sandy, loam, and clay soils. Some drought and short-term flooding tolerance, Grazemore Festulolium is showing promise in research regarding breaking up fragipans.
Soil pH: 5.5 – 7.5 |
Growth | Optimum Growth Range: 55°F – 85°F |
Establishment
Planting | Excessive ground cover during emergence should be avoided when planting Grazemore Festulolium.
Seeding Depth: ¾”
Monoculture: 30 – 35 Lb/A |
Germination | Min Time To Emergence: 7 – 14 days
Ideal Temp: 50°F – 65°F
|
Management
Grazing | Well suited to heavy grazing, Grazemore performs best under rotational grazing.
Earliest Time To Graze: 10″ – 12″
|
Fertilizing | At Planting: 15 Lb/A N – 20 Lb/A N
During Grazing Season: 100 Lb/A N
| Hay/Silage | Timing: Early Boot Stage
Cuttings During Season: 2 – 4
| Recovery | Minimum Graze Height: 3″ – 4″
Rest Period: 25 days
| Mixes |
- Alfalfa
- Clovers
- Birdsfoot Trefoil
- Tall Fescue
- Meadow Fescue
- Orchardgrass
| Yield | Tons of Dry Matter/A: 2 – 4 |
Considerations
Grazemore Festulolium stands can exceed 14 yrs.
Competition | Grazemore Festulolium is as competitive or more so than perennial ryegrass. |
Risks | Even though the quality is better than fescues, palatability may be lower than other types of forages resulting in lowered consumption and inadequate support of high milk production. Mix with other species to improve both palatability and drying. | Diseases |
